Holiday home near Callantsoog
Sleep in the polder, spend the day at Callantsoog.
Poldergeluk isn’t by the sea, and that’s rather the idea. The cottage is in Nieuwe Niedorp, among meadows, trees and ditches. When you feel like dunes and beach, Callantsoog on the North Sea coast is about 25 to 30 minutes away by car. In the evening you’re back in the quiet, with your own garden and wood-fired sauna.
A day
Polder, coast and back again.
Morning
Waking up slowly
Coffee on the terrace, sheep beyond the trees. Nowhere you need to be on time.
On the way
Through the north of the province
The drive takes you through open polder land towards the dunes. In spring, the largest continuous bulb-growing area in the Netherlands flowers close to the coast, between Burgervlotbrug and Den Helder.
Afternoon
Beach and dunes
A beach walk at Callantsoog or Groote Keeten, or the quiet of the dunes behind. Or make a whole beach day of it.
Evening
Back to the quiet
Sand off your feet, the sauna fire lit, and outside it slowly grows dark over the polder.
On the coast
Around Callantsoog and a little further.
A selection from our local guide: the beaches and dune landscapes that are easiest to reach from Poldergeluk.
Distances are measured as the crow flies from the cabin and give a rough idea; by road it is always a little further.
Callantsoog and Groote Keeten
Badstrand Callantsoog
An easy stretch of North Sea coast for a bracing walk or a full day by the sea.
Badstrand Groote Keeten
For a beach day with room to breathe, even on busy summer days.
Zwanenwater
One of the quietest corners of the region, with exactly the calm you came to Poldergeluk for.
Closed from 1 October 2026 until February 2027 for nature restoration. Orchids flower from May to July, and the heather turns purple in August.
Uitlandse Polder
The perfect alternative while the Zwanenwater is closed, and a quiet loop after that too.
Down the coast to the south
Strand Sint Maartenszee
One of the closest beaches to Poldergeluk, lovely for a brisk winter walk.
Wildrijk
A peaceful woodland walk close by, ideal for an unhurried morning out.
In spring the woodland floor is carpeted with wild bluebells.
Hondsbossche Duinen
Plenty of space and few crowds: a beach for properly switching off.
De Putten
A quiet birdwatching walk that pairs nicely with the Hondsbossche Duinen.
On the way
Between polder and coast.
On the road to the sea, or for a day that doesn’t need to be about the beach.
West-Friese Markt Schagen
Tradition and conviviality on a cheerful day out in Schagen.
Thursdays in summer
Museum Vreeburg
A small, close-by slice of local history.
Open in spring and summer
Bollenvelden Kop van Noord-Holland
In spring the polder opens straight onto a landscape of flowers.
From mid-March to mid-May, crocuses, daffodils, hyacinths and tulips bloom in turn.
Home in the polder
After a day by the sea, the quiet is waiting.
In summer the coast can be busy. The polder is quiet. Poldergeluk has its own garden with a terrace and covered seating, and behind it a green line of trees, a sheep meadow and a canal.
And then there’s the sauna: private, wood-fired and included in your stay. Just the thing after a day in the wind.
